I feel like Forrest....

Gump that is. All I can think about lately is running. In September I ran my first 5k and was very satisfied with my results (34:09). I love seeing that race bib hanging in my closet as a reminder of achieving a goal I never though I would set, let alone actually do. I never really enjoyed organized sports. I tried softball for a few years, but I was happy to give that up for time in girls scouts. I was also never very interested in self motivating to 'work out', at least not for longer than a week or two before I burned out. This past year I started 'running' on the elliptical and realized that with some effort I could build my stamina and cover some distance. Then in the summer I started reading running blogs and more importantly started weekly trail run/hikes with friends. When I was asked if I wanted to do the Komen 5k in San Francisco I said yes with no hesitation, ready to push myself in that race environment. It was a great race for a first timer!

Now though I just keep thinking about running. I've got a training program to follow on RunKeeper. That's a simple running for weight loss program, but it keeps me getting on the road and moving. In two weeks I'm running a fun obstacle course 5k mud run, the Kiss Me Dirty Race. I expect that to be an incredibly fun and dirty Saturday morning!

I've even registered for virtual 5ks! I run the distance during the 'race week' and report my time. Mostly just another tool to keep going and keep adding mileage. 2 this month, the Cupcake Classic (which comes with some cool goodies for participating) and the Trick or Treat Trot at the end of the month. I'll have to find more to do for after that.

Today though I was struck with a new thought... how about a half marathon in Spring/Summer of 2013? Well I found one to keep an eye on, not quite ready to register yet, seems a little too impulsive, but if I sleep on it for a bit and still want to do it I will. That race is in May, the Surfer's Path Half Marathon, should be beautiful, but it's got some hills so that will be a challenge for sure! And now my friend has thrown out the idea of Tough Mudder for next summer.

And then there is the long term goal of a Ragnar Relay! So many possibilities on the horizon of running! Lots of training... its a good thing I live where I can run year round! I guess I can officially call myself a runner now, a badge I will own proudly.
