As life goes on...

I took Molly and Zeus for a walk along Coyote Trail today. I knew we wouldn't go far, because Zeus hasn't been on long walks yet, just around the block. We barely made it to Cottonwood Lake at Hellyer park, just about 1/4 mile from the house, when he sat down and looked at me, it was obvious he wasn't interested in going any further. So I picked him up and carried him for a while, until he regained enough energy to make it home. He now weighs in at 35 pounds, up 8 in the month that we have had him. Molly is just barely an inch taller than him, but he is much longer and broader than she is. She is 27 pounds, which she has been for years. I am just so curious about how much bigger he will actually get.

I think Zeus is the most stubborn dog to be house broken. We have done everything that every book or training website suggests, yet he still sneaks in a tinkle here and there. I think its marking or spite. He does know how to tell us that he needs to go outside, and once out there he knows where to go, but inside he will pee before you can realize what he is doing, even if he was just outside 5 minutes before. Last week he nearly killed me (not really, but close), he was sitting on top of my chaise about to do his business, I got up to go stop him, but I slipped in pee he had already left on our tile entry, black tile mixed with pee = black ice. I slipped and slammed my shin into the step down into the front room. Jacob thought something really horrible had happened because from where he was I just disappeared down the step. It took a pretty good gouge out of my leg, and I'm pretty sure that it will leave a decent scar. Aww the memories it will leave.

Jacob's friend Matt is visting us from New York this week, I'm excited that he's here because he's a really great guy, but it looks like I won't be able to do too much fun stuff with them. Today they left for Truckee to do some snow boarding. Today they are snowmobiling in Truckee with the tour company we went with last spring, and tomorrow they will go snow boarding at Northstar. I really wish I could have gone with them, but I can't take time off right now and we're not ready to leave Zeus with someone else yet (see his above stubborness). Starting on Wednesday I have union negotiations starting up again. Not thrilled about starting this process but I'm even less thrilled about the 3 nights a week that I will be in meetings from 6-9 over the next three weeks.

The very exciting news for this week is that Jacob and I have been asked to be god parents for his cousin Veronica's son, Xavier. We are very honored to have been asked.
