The Laser Pointer Workout

Well it has been a crazy busy week!! (It feels like I start every blog with some similar sentiment). We finished off a fun visit with Matt, from NY, did some kayaking and lots of sushi! Zeus can now walk to the lake and around it without getting too tired. And the best news... over night Zeus & Molly have become best friends!! They always got along okay, but it was more that she tolerated him and all he wanted was to chase her around the house. Now they still chase after each other, but she starts it sometimes and he can be in the same room as her without feeling the need to chase her. Its just about the best thing to happen to our little family!

The quick update on Zeus, he is now just over 42lbs at about 4.5 months. He's totally outgrown Molly. She used to seem "big" but now she seems totally petite and feminine compared to his broadness and solid feel. He's gained about 15 pounds in the 5 weeks that we have had him.

Every night we are on a mission when we get home to make sure that he gets a ton of exercise. If we don't, he wakes up at about 1AM with spurts of energy that last an hour or so. We've started getting creative as we find ways to entertain him, especially with the wet weather we have been having, he's not a big fan of going out in the rain, so walks have been hard. Our current favorite method of tiring him out is to play with a laser pointer, much like people do with cats. Here's a quick video of him chasing down the red dot....

Other exciting things this week...
  • I laundered Jacob's cell phone. Not really exciting but definitely added some stress to our Sunday evening. Its an expensive phone, not to mention the data he had saved on it.
  • At work we are in the middle of union negotiations, always a fun time had by all. Lots of late nights; meetings 3 times a week from 6-9, and lots of nauseous moments as I write contract language that may or may not get approved and I contemplate what the union's response might be.
  • Jacob has been installing a ginormous (60 foot) video screen at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. He comes home with really cool behind the scenes stories from work about the giant turtles or the bat rays or watching the shark feedings.
  • Tomorrow at work we start Executive Team Weekly Meetings, something that I apparently will play a critical role in. It's pretty exciting to think that I am considered a part of that team, who woulda thunk it?!
  • We have a three day weekend coming up and are planning on putting on wetsuits to go play in the ocean!! Crazy!! I'm really excited though, just hoping the rain stays away like its supposed to.
The gray skies and work have admittedly left me a little less than energetic about the get up an go recently, so I am really hoping to find things to get out and do. I need to take some pictures (or at least do activities worthy of pictures) go for more walks and get inspired by Sarah's Fit for Real blog. Check it out to the right, she has come up with a really fun way to keep herself motivated to get fit and of course she's hiliarious so the blog's a fun read in general. I'm trying to figure out which movie character I could use as good inspiration for a similar regime. So far all I can think of is Evelyn Couch from Fried Green Tomatoes, now thats a character lifestyle I can embrace!

Busy is a bit of an understatement for you. Sorry about the death of the cell phone. Things like that happen to all of us, but when it happens it is a real big bummer!

Glad the dogs are getting along. Do you think they could come teach our cats to get along? After three months big fat mean Tana still rips little tiny sweet Sophie to shreds - good thing I don't have a bias, right?
