It's genetic... I must learn it!

Bright and early this morning Daddy made a delivery to my house... he brought me Grandma B's sewing machine. She's downsizing into a smaller room and this was one thing that definitely wasn't going to make the cut into the new digs. So now I have a sewing machine and what I think happens to be a particularly awesome one at that.

This morning I didn't really have time to look at it, but tonight other than eating dinner all I have done is find it a home, get it setup and research it and sewing ideas online. I love the vintage look of the whole setup, especially the chair (which has awesome storage in the seat!!). From what I have been able to figure out the Sears Kenmore Model 90 was made in 1961 (vintage but not an antique - awesome but not priceless). Grandma has kept all of the original parts and attachments, including the manual in perfect condition. Since I just cleaned out our closets I grabbed some old t-shirts and just started playing around, making sure the knobs all adjusted correctly and using the attachments to make the fancy stitches. Good news is it all works great!

And I found it a home in our home! Now the formal dining room we don't use for that purpose is our room for Mr. Dragon, my china display, and now my sewing nook. It finally, after 2 years, helps me feel like this space has a purpose.

I think I have found my first project too. A project that will allow me to practice without over stressing on final appearance, because no one will wear it on their body. I'm going to make a bunch of bags that I can use for grocery shopping. Here in San Jose they are very close to imposing a ban on plastic bags at grocery stores and other retailers and also charging customers for paper bags. This leaves the only alternative as providing your own tote bags, but who wants to spend a bunch of money buying those? I'll just practice my sewing skills making myself some simple totes to keep in my car for shopping trips. I'll let you know how it turns out! And feel free to share other sewing projects for beginners!

This weekend is supposed to be gorgeous and mild here in NorCal so hopefully I will get out and enjoy it some! Hope your weekend is wonderful too!

Oh and if you follow it, Fit Fuzz is back on track!

I think that is wonderful! And it does have that vintage look all set up. Enjoy it. Mine is set up right now, waiting for me to do a couple things. Time is my issue!
